An alert dry cleaning clerk turned the tables on an alleged robber on Monday afternoon.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., a man entered the dry cleaning business in the 3700 block of Canada Way, pointed a handgun at the employee and demanded money.

The employee fled to the back room when he saw the gun. The robber put the gun down and turned his attention to the money in the till. When the employee saw the gun was on the counter, he ran back and grabbed it. The robber then fled in the direction of Smith Avenue.

The Burnaby RCMP responded quickly, but were unable to locate the alleged robber. Police seized a Crossman 357 air gun, which is an extremely realistic replica of a Colt Python handgun.

The man police are looking for is described as an older Caucasian male, short, with a slim build. He had a beard, black sunglasses and black hair and was wearing a dark T-shirt and dark pants.

Police are looking for witnesses to call the Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922, or if they wish to remain anonymous, CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
