After a busy Sunday spent fighting a brush fire on Burnaby Mountain, firefighters were back in North Burnaby Monday afternoon, this time to attend a fire in Confederation Park.
Around 3 p.m. on July 6, firefighters were called to the north east corner of Confederation Park following reports of a grass fire in the area. Once on the scene, firefighters doused the small, 20-by-20 foot fire, according to assistant fire chief Rick Weir.
“It was extinguished by one engine company and nothing really to it,” Weir said.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined at this time, but Weir said it was likely the result of some type of “smoking material.”
“There was nothing around it,” Weir added.
