Burnaby firefighters are pitching in $25,000 to help their local hospital buy equipment needed to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society made the donation Tuesday to the Burnaby Hospital Foundation’s new COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.

The fund was created to help address the hospital's growing list of urgently needed items to support front-line staff, according to a foundation press release.

Donations are currently being accepted towards ICU beds, cardiac monitors and other equipment requested by health-care professionals.

“We’re seeing the effect this pandemic is having in our community and all communities and the strain it is putting on the health-care system,” Burnaby firefighters union president Jeff Clark said in the release. “We wanted to make this contribution now because we know how important it is for hospitals to have the emergency equipment they need to stay ahead of this crisis.”
