Burnaby launches Thursday night music, movies under the stars

Weekly family activities, top-notch entertainment and movies under the stars are all coming to Civic Square outside the Bob Prittie Library at Metrotown every Thursday in July and August. In July, show up anytime between 7 and 8:45 p.m.

Weekly family activities, top-notch entertainment and movies under the stars are all coming to Civic Square outside the Bob Prittie Library at Metrotown every Thursday in July and August. 

In July, show up anytime between 7 and 8:45 p.m. and you’ll be sure to find family activities and entertainment each evening. Highlights include:

  • July 4 –Jacky Essombe Trio celebrates the richness and community spirit of African culture through traditional dance, songs and storytelling. 
  • July 11 – The Blues Berries is a musical trio passionate about sharing their love of the blues with young audiences. Children and parents alike will enjoy getting into the groove.
  • July 18 - V’ni Dansi celebrates the history of the Metis people through dance. 
  • July 25 - Rod Boss is a comedy magician who dazzles with his high-energy show of gut-busting magic. 

In August, movies under the stars returns with another spectacular lineup including the 2018 hit Mary Poppins Returns (Aug. 8), Hotel Transylvania 3 (Aug. 15), Madagascar 3 (Aug. 22) and the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz (Aug. 29). 

Movies start at 8:30 p.m., rain or shine. Bring your blanket, snacks and settle in for a night at the movies! 

Civic Square is located at 6100 Willingdon Ave., just outside the Bob Prittie Library.
