A Burnaby man is still on the hunt for his missing moose head.
Francis Paul is still holding out hope someone can help reunite him with a memory-making moosehead that was stolen from his backyard in early December. After Paul’s appeal for assistance was reported in the Dec. 13 issue of the Burnaby NOW, a City of Burnaby employee contacted the NOW about the discovery of a moose head.
“Unfortunately, it wasn’t mine,” Paul said. “How many moose head are being thrown out in the City of Burnaby? It was a moose head, but it wasn’t even close.”
Paul has owned his moose head for more than 30 years, having brought it west after he moved here from the Maritimes.
“It means a great deal to me as a memory of my home,” he said. “It would mean a great deal to me, as a memory of my son, if it was returned. I haven’t seen him in many years. It’s connected to him.”
A couple of days after the moose head was stolen, one of Paul’s neighbours spotted it in the neighbourhood. She didn’t realize at the time that it belonged to Paul, and by the time he learned it had been sighted and went looking for it, it was gone.
The missing moose head is four-and-a-half feet in diameter and is bleached white. At the time of its disappearance, its left antler was covered in moss, and the two prongs at the bottom of the rack are short stumps as they were cut off years ago.
Paul remains hopeful that someone took in the moose head home, unaware that it had been stolen from his yard. He’s appealing to anyone who may have found the moose head to drop it off at food market at the corner of Stanley Street and Walker Avenue.
