Burnaby man recovering after being stabbed in Vancouver

A 32-year-old Burnaby man has been stabbed in the stomach and a Surrey man has been charged after a weekend altercation outside Vancouver's Anza Club. The fight took place around 1 a.m.

A 32-year-old Burnaby man has been stabbed in the stomach and a Surrey man has been charged after a weekend altercation outside Vancouver's Anza Club.

The fight took place around 1 a.m. Saturday after a verbal altercation between the men outside the club, which is located at West 8th Avenue and Ontario Street.

The Burnaby victim was taken to hospital for a non-life threatening injury, a cut to his stomach, and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Vancouver police arrested 20-year-old Gbassay Magona-Kallon of Surrey in the 100 block of East Broadway without incident and Magona-Kallon has now been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of aggravated assault. He was not previously known to police and was released on recognizance.

His next scheduled court appearance is Sept. 4 at Vancouver provincial court.
