Burnaby man shot near basketball courts, playground

Police are looking for witnesses after a 24-year-old man was shot in an area close to a large playground in Burnaby Tuesday. Burnaby RCMP was called to the area of Edmonds Park (formerly called Richmond Park) at about 9 p.m. for shots fired.

Police are looking for witnesses after a 24-year-old man was shot in an area close to a large playground in Burnaby Tuesday.

Burnaby RCMP was called to the area of Edmonds Park (formerly called Richmond Park) at about 9 p.m. for shots fired.

When they arrived at the scene, near the basketball courts and playground behind the Edmonds Community Centre, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police said the victim, a Burnaby resident, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.

The victim is known to police, according to Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Daniela Panesar, and the shooting is believed to be targeted.

No arrests have been made and no description of the suspect or suspects has been released.
