A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for a 34-year-old Burnaby man in connection to an alleged assault earlier this month.

Following an incident on Feb. 10, James Patrick Benson was charged with assault and uttering threats, according to a media release from RCMP.

He was last seen on the morning of Feb. 11 at a home in the 7000 block of Balmoral Street but where he is now remains unknown, the release added.

Benson has a lengthy criminal history and is a two-time federal offender currently serving a long-term supervision order that expires in April 2021, according to the release.

A supervision order is a sentencing option offered to an offender considered a dangerous offender or long-term offender. This order allows officers to supervise the offender’s activities in accordance with the Corrections and Conditional Release Act, according to Correctional Services Canada.

In February 2011, Benson was charged with breaching the long-term supervision order and sentenced to four months in prison. The following year, in February, he was also charged with being unlawfully at large and ordered to serve one day in prison.

Police describe Benson as a 5-10, 200 lbs., Caucasian man with brown hair and brown eyes. He has several tattoos, including one on his left wrist with the numbers 011707; another on his left forearm of the word morbid; a third on his chest of a four-leaf clover and the words lost soul; and two red stars on both his shoulders.

“We are pursuing numerous investigative avenues in an effort to locate (Benson) and have not excluded the possibility that he may have left British Columbia,” Sgt. Annie Linteau, spokesperson for the RCMP’s Lower Mainland District, said in the release. “We urge anyone to call police should they encounter (Benson) and use caution in their dealings with him.”

Court Services Online also lists Bump or James Patrick Bump as two aliases Benson has used previously.
