Mayor Derek Corrigan received $144,569 in wages, benefits and travel allowance last year, down from the more than $145,000 he received in 2010.
The information comes from the city's 2011 remuneration and expense report.
Corrigan's base salary was $117,532.04, a three per cent increase from his 2010 salary.
He also received a $10,918.71 retiring allowance, a $10,339.33 transportation allowance, and $1,561.80 for cell phones, telephones, and fax and Internet costs.
Corrigan claimed $4,220.46 in travel expenses last year, down from $6,713.47 the year before.
The bulk of Corrigan's travel costs for last year was the trip to Halifax for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities board meeting, where Corrigan was given the Green Champion Award. The cost of the trip was $3,296.23.
The other travel costs were for a Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference in Victoria, B.C. ($290.61); a Lower Mainland Local Government Association conference in Whistler ($521.62); and a Union of B.C. Municipalities convention in Vancouver ($112).
Burnaby councillors received $45,368.08 as their base salary in 2011. Councillors also received a $3,600 transportation allowance, a $4,549.18 retiring allowance, and varying amounts of acting mayor pay.
One councillor spent more on travel and conferences last year than all the other council members.
Coun. Sav Dhaliwal received a total of $65,911.47, including $10,094.65 for travel expenses to six conferences.
The councillor to claim the least amount of travel expenses was Coun. Richard Chang, who claimed none at all.
Chang received a total of $55,678.18.
Coun. Pietro Calendino received $62,457.05 in total, including $5,839.09 for travel expenses to three conferences.
Coun. Dan Johnston received $61,581.80, including $6,214.50 for travel expenses to three conferences.
Coun. Colleen Jordan received $57,294.80 including $1,325.88 for travelling expenses to two conferences.
Coun. Anne Kang received a total of $58,397.78, including $3,035.28 for travel expenses to one conference.
Coun. Paul McDonell received a total of $56,550.47, including $756 in travel expenses to one conference.
Coun. Nick Volkow received a total of $57,578.27, including $599.20 for travel expenses to one conference.
Volkow claimed the most in cell phone, telephone, fax and Internet expenses out of all the councillors, at $3,083.74.
Burnaby city council usually sets the indemnity, or salary, rate in August, when a panel of community representatives considers factors such as the consumer price index, B.C.'s average wage increases and pay rates for city hall's unionized staff. The committee then makes a recommendation to council.
