Burnaby-Edmonds MLA Raj Chouhan reintroduced an act to prevent workplace bullying today in the legislature.
"Workplace bullying is a massive issue affecting workers in every sector of the province," said Chouhan, the NDP's labour critic. "It hurts workers and it is bad for business."
The act targets on-the-job harassment and attempts to provide better protections for bullying victims in the workplace. The act defines harassment, outlines ways workers can report incidents and includes investigating policies while making workers accountable for acts of harassment.
"The recent allegations of extreme on-the-job abuse of government employees, including a woman who said she was nearly driven to suicide by her bullying boss, highlight the need for these supports now more than ever," said Chouhan. "Today on Pink Shirt Day, it's time for the Liberal government to take some real action against bullying - support this bill and show workers they do not have to live in fear."
Chouhan first introduced this bill in June 2011.
