Three people were unharmed in a shooting in North Burnaby early Wednesday morning.

Burnaby RCMP confirmed that shots were fired around 1 a.m. near a townhouse complex in the 2700 block of Ellerslie Avenue, just north of Lougheed Highway between Bainbridge and Sperling avenues.

By the time officers arrived at the scene, the shooter had fled. Witnesses reported seeing a tan or black sedan, but no licence plate information was recorded. Three victims were located in a vehicle, all were uninjured, according to a media release from Burnaby RCMP.

Investigators don’t believe the shooting is connected to any recent activity in neighbouring cities, and it’s unclear whether or not it was targeted. The victims don’t have any “apparent ties to gang activity,” according to the release.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
