Flowers have been left in memory of a 22-year-old woman who died on Feb. 17 after she was hit by a car at Canada Way and Gardner Court.

Investigators are asking witnesses of a fatal car crash last week to contact Burnaby RCMP.

The collision happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. when a white Infiniti car, carrying a driver and two passengers, all reportedly 18 years old, crashed into a grey Volkswagon turning right on to Canada Way from Carey Avenue on the BCIT campus.

After colliding with the Volkswagon, the Infiniti “skidded along the centre median, crossed two lanes of traffic, hit a power pole located on the southwest corner of Canada Way at Gardner Court and finally struck a pedestrian who was standing at that location,” explained a media release from the RCMP.

The pedestrian, a 22-year-old Coquitlam resident, was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police are not releasing her name at this time.

The driver and passengers of the Infiniti and the driver and passenger of the Volkswagon – a woman in her 50s and her son in his 20s – were also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

As the investigation is still ongoing, Burnaby RCMP are looking to speak with witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the crash – in particular the drivers of two vehicles seen on surveillance footage.

“Investigators are now especially interested in speaking to the drivers of two specific vehicles as they believe those drivers could have information that could help further this investigation,” stated the release.

The first vehicle, described as a red car, is seen in the surveillance video leaving BCIT’s northwest parking lot and turning right on to Canada Way. The second vehicle is a black pickup truck seen in the video travelling eastbound on Canada Way.

These drivers or anyone who may be able to identify them are asked to contact Cpl. Jason Bayer from Burnaby RCMP traffic services at 604-294-7922.
