A pair of prolific crooks are back behind bars after they were caught red-handed in an alleged stolen van.
The two men were arrested by Burnaby Mounties who were investigating a rash of commercial vehicle thefts from construction sites.
In May, the detachment’s prolific offender team came across two men in an alleged stolen white panel van. Officers tried to follow the vehicle and stop it, but the driver sped away, eluding capture. However, the next day, police spotted the same stolen van being driven to another location where the suspects allegedly attempted to steal a second van. The pair were arrested without incident.
Robert Karajaojo, 32 and Kevin Montemurro, 27, both Burnaby residents are facing charges of possession of stolen property and theft of auto. They are scheduled to appear in court June 27.
“Our crime analysts work closely with Burnaby investigators to identify chronic offenders and areas of the community where we are experiencing similar-type crimes,” said RCMP Sgt. Derek Thibodeau in a press release. “In this instance, we identified a series of thefts involving white vans and the investigation flowed from that initial alert to the successful conclusion we see today. It’s often just a few offenders committing multiple crimes, and speciality teams such as (the prolific offender team) get very good at identifying these chronic offenders.”
