Old time Burnaby residents will remember the old nightclub near the corner of Gilley and Kingsway as The Zipper, Studebaker's Cabaret, The Zipper or Onyx.
But with the area changing and being revitalized with businesses that operate more conventional hours, the building at 7012 Randolph St. will be part of a community celebration on Sept. 4 and the unveiling of a community mural worked on by local artist Todd Polich.
The building is now occupied by Nova Health and Fitness. Dean Kotopski is a partner in Nova Health and Fitness and also owns Performax Health two doors down.
In the last two years, Kotopshi has seen the area changing for the better and with Polich working on a mural, the area is getting more of a community feel.
Kotopshi has seen break-ins at both of his businesses and he has lost thousands of dollars in equipment.
But Kotopski is optimistic about the areas future as he sees more and more people coming into his gym to work out who are feeling comfortable in the area.
The good cheer will be in full evidence at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4 when Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan and members of city council will attend a community party at Nova Health and Fitness.
Refreshments will be provided and there will be a brief reception and a tour of the facility.
