Burnaby, New Westminster facing a hot, humid week

New Westminster and Burnaby residents will be looking for ways to stay cool this week, as humidity will make it feel hotter than usual.

Brace yourselves: the humidity is coming to Burnaby and New Westminster today — and it's going to make things feel pretty darn hot.

The first four days of this week will be sunny, hot and humid in our part of Metro Vancouver, according to the Weather Network's current forecast.

Today, both Burnaby and New West are expected to hit highs of 26 C, but with humidity that's projected to feel more like 30 C in New Westminster and 32 C in Burnaby.

The trend continues through the following three days, with New Westminster hitting 26 C tomorrow (feels like 32 C); 30 C on Wednesday (feels like 36 C) and 27 C on Thursday (feels like 33 C). Burnaby has a similar outlook: 27 C on Tuesday (feels like 33 C); 31 C on Wednesday (feels like 37 C), and 29 C on Thursday (feels like 35 C).

Fortunately, however, the air quality remains good around Metro Vancouver. Metro Vancouver's air quality map shows good readings around Burnaby and New Westminster. Five of Burnaby's six monitoring stations show readings of 2 (low health risk), with Burnaby Mountain reading the lowest possible risk, 1. New Westminster is also currently sitting at a 1.

Remember to keep hydrated, stay cool and minimize your outdoor activity, especially during the hottest part of the day. And continue to keep an eye on those folks who are vulnerable to heat.
