The City of Burnaby is offering rent relief to some tenants at its commercial buildings – particularly for four sports organizations renting space at closed facilities.
The matter came to a recent meeting in which city council voted to waive rent for the four organizations for six months or until the facilities reopen and the organizations are allowed to operate again.
Among the organizations getting rent relief were Lotus Sports Group, which rents boat storage and clubhouse space at Barnet Beach ($942/month); Silent Water Boat Rental, which rents space at Deer Lake for ($2,400/month); Western Community-Centred College for the Retired, which rents space in the Alan Emmott Centre for ($779/month); and Cliff Avenue Soccer Club, which rents space for ($317.50/month).
In all, six months of relief for those organizations would add up to $26,631 in lost revenue.
Council approved the rent relief unanimously and without comment.
