The City of Burnaby is opening a temporary emergency warming centre at the Bonsor Recreation Complex beginning tonight, Feb. 21, temperatures are expected to drop significantly.

It will operate 8:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily until the extreme cold has passed and will be open to the public for those in need.

Bonsor Recreation Complex is located at 6550 Bonsor Avenue in the Metrotown neighbourhood and was chosen for this service because it is centrally located, close to transit and other amenities, the city said.

This warming centre will complement existing homeless services available in Burnaby, which include:

  • Douglas Shelter—2294 Douglas Road
  • Emergency Response Centre—3680 Sperling Avenue
  • Extreme weather shelter—Westminster Bible Chapel, 7540 6th Street
