The Burnaby Lake Flyers Association is set to soar to help those in need.

The club – which flies radio-controlled aircraft – is hosting an open house to raise money for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

On May 11, the club will host other pilots from local clubs for a full day of flying.

“The public is encouraged to come and watch, ask questions and learn about a great hobby and, of course, bring a non-perishable food item for the food bank,” said a news release.

Admission is free for observers and $5 for pilots. The event takes place at Burnaby Lake East Sports Fields, 3760 Sperling Ave., and runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be everything from warbirds, civilian aircraft, jets and helicopters being flown.

“You can even try your hand at flying an r/c plane on a flight simulator.”
