Burnaby pizza fundraiser helping cheer team fly to Florida

Airlines jacked up prices, leaving youth teams and groups scrambling for more funding.

The Royal City Knockout All-Star team is heading to Orlando, Florida to compete in the International Summit.

This is the first time the team tried to get a "bid" and not only did they achieve this, they also got a paid "bid" (registration for the team is paid for by the organizers).

While this is great for the team, there are still a lot of expenses to get the team there - uniforms, extra practice times, etc.

To help local families offset these costs, the cheer team is partnering with Me-n-Eds in Burnaby for a fundraiser today (Friday), April, 8.

Over 45 people are traveling to the international Summit competition that is being held at Walt Disney World.

Just be sure to mention “Royal City Cheer” when you place an order at Me-n-Eds. The restaurant will donate 20% of the sales back to the team to cover the costs. This applied to orders for take-out, dine in, or delivery.

Me-n-Eds is located at 7110 Hall Ave., Burnaby.

The cheer team consistently placed in the top three at every competition they entered, and were third in the province for their category (U17 Level 2).

The team was coached by the best, Tiah Sampson; Pedro Campello; Kara Weintraub and Nicole Pasacreta

In an interview with the NOW, owner of Royal City Cheer and co-coach to the cheer team Nicole Pasacreta said “as soon as the rules around international travel changed, airlines just jacked the prices up. Tomorrow’s partnership with Me-n-Ed’s will help out a lot.”

The club even managed to stay open throughout the pandemic, providing the athletes with a space to connect, get some exercise and maintain good mental health.
