Two drivers had their nights ruined by Burnaby RCMP after they were caught driving impaired.
It’s all part of the kick off to the annual CounterAttack campaign, which saw two impaired drivers caught Saturday night, 32 tickets issued and a total of five vehicles being taken off of the road.
As many people head to holiday gatherings with friends and family, both ICBC and police are repeating one strict message, “if you drink, don’t drive.”
According to ICBC data, more than half of impaired-related crashes occur on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays.
On average, 16 people are killed and 830 people are injured in 1,500 impaired driving-related crashes in the Lower Mainland every year.
Impaired driving remains as “one of the top three contributing factors” for fatal crashes in the province.
“B.C.’s annual CounterAttack impaired driving campaign is designed to help keep your roads safe, and families and friends together,” said Chief Const. Neil Dubord, chair of the BC Association of Chiefs of Police Traffic Safety Committee.
“Impaired driving by alcohol or drugs is a preventable, dangerous decision that too often results in serious injuries or death. We encourage you to embrace the joy of the season, while making safe and responsible choices.”
