Another day, another senior citizen arrested for allegedly violation a court injunction barring him from Trans Mountain properties in Burnaby.
On Thursday, at approximately 4:40 p.m., Burnaby RCMP arrested a 71-year-old man at the Trans Mountain Burnaby Terminal at 8099 Shellmont St.
“The man was in breach of a court-ordered injunction that stated he could not come within five metres of a Trans Mountain site,” said a news release. “He remains in custody and will appear in court tomorrow morning.”
The news release didn’t identify the person arrested, but another 71-year-old man - Terry Christenson - has been arrested three times for protesting the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion. During the summer, Christenson mounted a hunger strike while in custody.
Christenson was most recently arrested July 10 at the pipeline’s Westridge terminal before he was able to scale a crane and unfurl a banner reading “No tankers,” according to a press release from Stand.earth.
“The primary concerns of the police are public safety, police officer safety, and preservation of the rights of demonstrators to their freedoms of expression, association and mobility, as guaranteed by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms,” said a police statement.
