A suspected impaired driver was arrested Sunday morning after concerned citizens reported an erratic driver on Canada Way.

At approximately 2 a.m. early Sunday, Burnaby RCMP received reports that a driver was weaving all over the road, going into the oncoming lane and almost causing a head-on collision with another car.

Police were able to quickly locate and stop the car, which was now moving excessively slowly while going westbound on Canada Way.

As the male drive exited the vehicle, he left the transmission in "Drive" and a police officer had to jump into the vehicle and quickly put it into "Park."

Inside the car was the man's wife and three-year-old child. The child was found without a proper child restraint.

"We would like to encourage concerned citizens to get involved, and if they see something clearly dangerous, to call us immediately," Cpl. Jason Bayer of the Burnaby RCMP's traffic section said in a press release.

The driver has been issued a promise to appear in court notice, and police are recommending charges of impaired driving, dangerous driving and criminal negligence.
