A man is in hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries after he was stabbed on the street outside a condo complex in the 4800-block of Brentwood Drive on Monday evening.

According to Cpl. Rick Skolrood of the Burnaby RCMP, the incident occurred between 7 and 7:30 p.m.

"The motive is not known and we are still looking for the implement used," said Skolrood. "We do not believe this was random and we do not believe there is a danger to the public."

Skolrood said the victim does not appear to have gang ties, but had previous contact with the police, although police do not believe this was a factor in the stabbing.

"There was a lot of blood outside the building," said Skolrood. "We will continue investigating as we look for the (weapon) and a motive."

Skolrood added that a woman who was seen being taken into custody on Monday night is not a person of interest in this case and her circumstances are totally unrelated to the stabbing.
