Burnaby Mounties are considering recommending charges against a driver involved in a crash that sent a pedestrian to hospital late Sunday evening.

Police were called to the intersection of North Road and Lougheed Highway on the Burnaby/Coquitlam border just before 11 p.m. for a report of pedestrian struck.

Investigators said the woman was trying to cross North Road eastbound, when a car heading southbound allegedly ran through a red light hitting her.

The woman was taken to hospital and treated for a fractured pelvis.

RCMP Sgt. Derek Thibodeau said investigators believe alcohol is a factor in the crash, alleging the driver did not provide a breath sample to officers at the scene.

He noted charges are expected to be approved against the driver in the future.

There was no other information provided by police for the driver or the pedestrian.

Meanwhile, Burnaby RCMP are asking any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to contact the detachment’s traffic services section.
