Police investigating a suspicious vehicle fire in Burnaby early Friday morning are looking for help from the public.

Firefighters were called to the 7400 block of 18th Avenue by Kings Crossing at about 2 a.m. for reports of a vehicle on fire, according to assistant fire Chief Darcy Robinson.

At the scene, they found one car fully involved and another car beside it getting scorched by radiant heat, he said.

According to Burnaby RCMP, the vehicle on fire was a blue Mitsubishi, and the car beside it was a gray Mazda.

Robinson said police were called in because firefighters found a one-gallon jerry can in front of the fully engulfed vehicle.

“That’s why it was suspicious,” he said.

Police are now asking anyone who might have information about the fire or video of the scene to call.

“We are still investigating, but there is some evidence of arson,” Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Brett Cunningham said.

Call Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
