The Burnaby RCMP are investigating an increase in mail thefts from apartments in the North Burnaby area.
According to an RCMP press release, multiple mailboxes were damaged and mail was stolen from two different locations in North Burnaby. Mail theft can result in instances of identity theft and fraudulent usage of personal information.
Police are also warning that any apartment building, condominium or townhouse complex with a central mail repository can be victimized in this fashion.
Police are reminding apartment building tenants to be vigilant when entering or exiting their residences and to be aware of strangers loitering in or around the lobby areas of their buildings. People who see anything suspicious are asking to advise their property manager or Block Watch coordinator or call the Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922.
