Burnaby RCMP officers host chili lunch fundraiser for five Cops for Cancer riders

The overwhelming smell of chili coming from just outside the Burnaby RCMP detachment was no mistake Tuesday.

The overwhelming smell of chili coming from just outside the Burnaby RCMP detachment was no mistake Tuesday.

The detachment hosted a chili fundraiser to help support the five local officers who will be riding in the Cops for Cancer fundraiser later this year.

Cpl. Michel Ling, Const. Sebastien Simard, Sgt. Stephane Brossard, Const. Iain Thomson and Const. Tammy Anonson will be riding for a good cause.

"This is one of several fundraisers we hold every year to raise money for cancer research," Ling said in a press release. "It's a fun way to bring the detachment and city employees together to support a great cause."

Each fall, more than 100 law enforcement officers and emergency services workers cycle up to two weeks across four regions of British Columbia to support children with cancer and their families.

Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society's Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast, Tour de North, Tour de Rock and Tour de Valley are invested in life-saving childhood cancer research and caring support services including Camp Goodtimes, the acclaimed summer recreation program for children with cancer and their family.

If you wish to donate, please contact Anonson at 604-294-7922.
