A fight at the Metropolis at Metrotown Chapters’ location turned out to be only a minor incident, according to Burnaby RCMP.

At about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, police received a call about a fight inside Chapters at Metrotown. Early reports coming through on social media suggested the victim was attacked by a group of people and had suffered a “head injury and eyes swollen shut.”

But according to Cpl. Dave Reid, the fight wasn’t as bad as the early reports indicated.

“It sounds a lot a worse than it was. A lot of people said it was one guy being beaten up by about eight people,” he added.

In reality, the incident involved two men, fighting outside of the Chapters at Metrotown with about eight people watching from the sidelines, Reid said.

“They were associated to the one. They didn’t pitch in and they all left the scene and the guy left sitting there had a swollen black eye – that was about the extent of his injuries,” he said.

When police arrived on the scene, the victim didn’t have anything to say to the officers. Instead, Reid said, the man refused to identify who was involved or how the fight got started.

“That would generally suggest it was either he started it, got beaten up and was embarrassed, or he’s involved with somebody over debt or something else,” he said. “But he doesn’t want us involved.”
