With the return of daylight savings time meaning shorter days and night coming earlier, members of the Burnaby RCMP traffic unit have partnered with ICBC to raise awareness about pedestrian safety.

On Tuesday afternoon, police officers, along with citizen volunteers, will hit the streets to educate pedestrians and motorists about road safety. They will be handing out reflective wrist bands to pedestrians.

The education enforcement will be taking place along Kingsway between Nelson Avenue and Willingdon Avenue at around 4 p.m.

The police and ICBC are also offering several safety tips, including: Be alert by removing your headphones, putting away your cell phone when crossing the street and focusing your attention fully on what's happening around you; making eye contact with drivers when crossing the roads in bad visibility, so you both know you see each other; staying visible by wearing bright or light-coloured clothing, with reflective materials if possible.
