The Burnaby RCMP is warning the public about a possible fraudster cold-calling people in an attempt to gain access to personal financial information.

On Sept. 11, police received a complaint about the scam, which involves someone calling and claiming to represent a real charity and then asking for credit card information for donation purposes.

"Fraudsters often claim to represent legitimate companies and organizations and may have personal information about you which they have obtained by illegal means," Const. Linda Reinhart of the Burnaby RCMP's economic crime unit said in a press release. "Our recommendation is to never give out personal information to people who call you out of the blue."
