Burnaby recorded fewer than 25 COVID-19 cases during latest reporting period

Numbers have continued to drop amid tighter testing criteria

COVID-19 case counts keep dropping in Burnaby, according to updated provincial data. 

The BC Centre for Disease Control's (BCCDC) Geograhphic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence update for March 20 to 26 says Burnaby recorded just 24 new infections. 

Numbers have continued to drop throughout the province as PCR testing requirements were tightened. 

Burnaby hits 16K COVID-19 cases since start of pandemic

According to the Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence, Burnaby has recorded 16,000 infections from Jan. 2020 to Feb. 2022. 

The data is published by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). 

Burnaby holds the third-highest total in the Greater Vancouver Inset behind Tri-Cities (16,358) and Surrey (56,117). 

63% of eligible Burnaby residents 18 years and older have received booster shots, almost 70% of eligible children have received first dose 

The BC Centre for DIsease Control (BCCDC) COVID-19 surveillance dashboard says as of March 22, 63% of eligible Burnaby residents have received their booster dose. 

The city is behind New Westminster and South Surrey/White Rock (64%), but are tied with Delta and the Tri-Cities for the second-highest rate in Fraser Health. 

BCCDC data also shows 68% of eligible Burnaby children aged 5-11 have received a first dose of the vaccine. 

New Westminster is in second place at 67%. 

Percentages across Fraser Health as of March 29, 2022, are as follows:

  • Burnaby - 68%
  • Delta - 65%
  • Tri-Cities - 64%
  • South Surrey/White Rock - 63%
  • Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows - 55%
  • Surrey - 53%
  • Langley - 51%
  • Chilliwack - 39%
  • Abbotsford - 39%
  • Agassiz/Harrison - 38%
  • Mission - 37%
  • Hope - 33%
