Burnaby records more than 50 COVID-19 cases during latest reporting period

As COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to rise throughout B.C., Burnaby is holding steady in caseloads. 

According to the latest Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence Burnaby recorded 53 new infections from Aug. 1 to 7, 2021, which is down only one case from the previous reporting period. 

July 25 to 31, 2021, saw 54 new infections detected. 

The data is released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). 

Today (Aug. 12), provincial health officials announced another 513 cases were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the provincial total to 154,362. 

As of this publication, there are 3,834 active cases with 81 people currently hospitalized (an increase of 9 from yesterday), with 33 currently in ICU/critical care. 

Fraser Health, which includes Burnaby, saw 108 new infections in the past day and now have 750 active cases throughout the health authority. 

In other BCCDC data, Burnaby's latest regional numbers for Aug. 3 to 9, 2021, are as follows. Case rates are new cases per 100,000 people by local health area and community health service area.

  • Positivity rate: 4%
  • Vaccination coverage (first dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 88%
  • Vaccination coverage (second dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 77%

BURNABY NORTHEAST

  • Case rate: 1
  • Positivity rate: 1%
  • Vaccination coverage (first dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 86%
  • Vaccination coverage (second dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 75%

BURNABY SOUTHWEST

  • Case rate: 3
  • Positivity rate: 1%
  • Vaccination coverage (first dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 85%
  • Vaccination coverage (second dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 73%
