Protesters from Defend Our Coast, the 4,000-strong anti-pipeline expansion rally in Victoria on Monday, are taking things local.

The group has fanned out to MLA offices around the province including a group of 50 who gathered in front of the constituency office of Burnaby North MLA Richard Lee.

We have quite a group here who are not only protesting the Enbridge Pipeline but also the Kinder Morgan pipeline, which is going through Burnaby, said Mary Hatch, a Burnaby resident and organizer.

My house was affected by the 2007 oil spill but what Im really concerned about is having bitumen go through the new pipeline. Any spills with that would be catastrophic because you just cant clean that up.

Lee was not in the office for the protest, Hatch said, but the group plans to march, wave placards and beat drums until 1 p.m. Wednesday.
