Officers from the Emergency Response Team suited up in full gear for the 2014 Adrian Oliver Memorial Run. The run in honour of the RCMP officer who died in 2012 is taking place again this Sunday at Deer Lake Park.

In the difficult days after 28-year-old Surrey RCMP Const. Adrian Oliver was killed in a motor vehicle crash while on duty in 2012, Honour House in New Westminster opened its doors to his family travelling to the Lower Mainland from all across Canada to be with loved ones.

And for years after, a charity run that bears Oliver’s name has given back to Honour House, a home away from home for veterans and first responders whenever they need it.

“Participating in this event is truly rewarding for my family. Our lives will never be the same but this allows for my son’s legacy to live on, and there is nothing more I want than to give back to the charity that was there for my family in such a time of need,” said Oliver’s father, Assistant Commissioner Joe Oliver.

The seventh annual Cst. Adrian Oliver Memorial Run – including 5k and 10k distances, a barbecue and a 50/50 draw – takes place at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby this Sunday (Oct. 27) at 11 a.m.

All proceeds go to the Honour House Society, a non-profit charitable organization that provides a temporary home and a place of recovery specifically for military personnel and first responders while they are receiving medical care or coping with a sudden tragedy.
