The Burnaby school board is searching for a new district superintendent, following the retirement of Claudio Morelli in late August.
"(We're looking for) somebody with a vision, somebody that will be able to think outside the box," said board chair Larry Hayes, "someone who realizes that being a school district is often a competitive business."
The district hired a headhunting firm to attract candidates for the position. The search is ongoing; there's no deadline to apply, and there's no set date to choose a new superintendent. As is the case with all school district administration positions, the elected school board makes the hiring decisions.
"We want to make sure we go through a process where we determine who would be the right fit for the job, whether they be from external or internal," Hayes said.
The headhunting firm couldn't say what the new superintendent's salary would be, but Morelli, who formerly held the job, earned more than $174,000.
In the meantime, former assistant superintendent Heather Hart is the acting superintendent.
