The Burnaby school district is hosting the official opening of Burnaby Central Secondary this Tuesday, Oct 23.

The new $52-million seismically sound high school opened its doors to students in September 2011. The province opted to build a new high school because it was cheaper than seismically upgrading the old one.

The new school features a large central gathering space, a state-of-the-art kitchen for cooking programs, an auto shop, an aboriginal education room, a theatre, large dance studio and a wrestling room.

The official opening is on Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 2 to 3 p.m., followed by an open house where members of the public can stop by for tours and enjoy refreshments and cake.

The new school is at 6011 Deer Lake Parkway, just across from Burnaby city hall.
