A Burnaby senior says she doesn’t even feel safe anymore in her own home after her “prized possession” and a lifeline for her family was stolen right out of her own driveway.
“I am a 77-year-old single woman with modest means,” she told the NOW, wanting to keep her name anonymous. “On the night of Feb. 3, my prized possession of a beat-up old truck was stolen. I usually secure it with a bar across the steering wheel as it’s cheaper than buying theft insurance; however I didn’t that night as I was too tired after grocery shopping. My food was also gone with the truck.”
The truck is a 1996 Mazda B3000 (scroll the photos above to see an example). It is black with a “bad homemade paint job” with a prominent dent in the front fender driver’s side and ball-type trailer hitch at the back. Pickup has a short extended cab for kids.
The theft happened on Grassmere Street in Burnaby. The senior says she is the “taxi driver” for two teenage grandchildren.
“Now that taxi is gone,” she said, meaning it would take more than an hour to, for example, pick up one of the grandkids late after a late sports practice.
“I think i was targeted, maybe for car parts, as I always lock with the security steering wheel bar, except for that one night as i was exceptionally tired,” she said.
