This year's Rivers Day celebration will be held on Sunday, Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Burnaby.

Organizers are anticipating approximately 2,000 participants.

There will be environmental displays and activities for the public to explore eco-friendly options for improving waterways and the environment in Burnaby and around the world, according to the city manager's report to council last week.

The event is also slated to have a farmers' market with vendors, and Metro Vancouver's Water Wagon program is scheduled to be there to teach residents about public drinking water.

A bank stabilization, instream and habitat restoration project for Guichon Creek, beside the campus, was initiated this summer in advance of Rivers Day.

There will be a cutthroat trout release into the creek as part of the event.
