The City of Burnaby’s overnight warming centre at the Bonsor Recreation Complex will close at 8 a.m. on Feb. 1 as temperatures have warmed up.

The warming centre provided extra capacity for vulnerable people to take shelter from winter weather, the city said in a news release, as Metro Vancouver was hit by snowstorms and sub-zero temperatures. The warming centre also complemented existing homeless services available in Burnaby, which include:

  • Douglas Shelter—2294 Douglas Road
  • Emergency Response Centre—3680 Sperling Avenue

Lookout Housing and Health Society also operates Extreme Weather Response Shelters during extreme cold at Southside Community Church, 7135 Walker Avenue (Open the 1st to the 15th of the month), and Westminster Bible Chapel, 7540 6th Street (Open 16th to end of the month).
