Donna Chavarria, wife of Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame builder Ossie Chavarria and mother of recent Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame inductee David Chavarria, passed away on Feb. 29.

Donna was born in 1946 and was a loving and devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Osvaldo; two children Trina (Gray) Hardy and David (Jamie); seven grandchildren; and brother Ken (Debbie) Moore.

She is predeceased by her parents, J. Milton and Roberta Moore.

Donna was a passionate gardener and a major supporter and fan of Baseball B.C. and the various professional teams affiliated with the Vancouver Canadians and Vancouver Mounties organizations where her husband, son, brother and son-in-law were all involved with.

Son David, who was inducted into the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame last month, made an emotional speech thanking his parents, adding they were the ones who deserved the credit for his honour. Donna attended the ceremony in what turned out to be one of her final public appearances.

A service and reception in Donna's memory will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6 at the Burnaby Firefighter's Club at 6515 Bonsor St.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to be sent to the Burnaby Hospital Foundation oncology department at 3935 Kincaid St., Burnaby, BC, V5G 2X6.
