A Burnaby teen charged with drug trafficking and possession in connection with a series of deadly overdoses in Saskatchewan this month remains in custody after being denied bail last week.

Shervin Dass Beeharry, 19, and two other men were arrested after emergency crews in Saskatoon were called to three different locations within three hours to treat six people suffering from apparent illicit drug overdoses on March 10.

Three of the overdose victims died.

Beeharry and the two other men (19-year-old Azam Kabani, also of Burnaby, and 21-year-old Japmanjot Grewal, of Calgary) have all been charged with possession and trafficking of fentanyl, cocaine and heroin as well as unlawful possession of a semi-automatic pistol and ammunition.

Kabani was freed on $7,500 bail on March 21. Among the conditions of his release is a promise to live with his father in New Westminster.

Beeharry, meanwhile, was denied bail at a hearing on March 22, but the reasons for the decision can’t be published because of a publication ban on evidence presented at such hearings.

Beeharry is next scheduled to appear in court on March 28.

Saskatoon police has said it is investigating further charges in relation to the overdoses, and manslaughter charges are possible.
