Burnaby to open emergency warming centre

Burnaby is opening up another 20 spaces in an emergency warming centre as extreme cold temperatures are expected.

More cold weather is on the way for Metro Vancouver.

The City of Burnaby will activate its overnight warming centre today, Thursday, Jan. 11, at 7320 Buller Ave. for vulnerable people to take shelter from the cold.

The shelter will operate from 8:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily until further notice.

There is another temporary winter shelter operated by Progressive Housing Society next door at 7320 Buller Ave. with an entrance via the Prenter Street Parking Lot, with operating hours from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. seven days a week. The location has sleeping pods for those looking to get out of the cold and connected to various supports.
