School is Easy Tutoring of Burnaby was announced as the first-place winner of the People’s Pick award as well as the Market Place Excellence award on June 7 at the Better Business Bureau 2018 Torch Awards ceremony at Trev Deely Motorcycles.

The People’s Pick Award was given to the business that received the most consumer recognition online.

The Market Place Excellence award was given to the business that demonstrated excellence in the BBB standards of trust, which include the following attributes: trustworthiness, honest advertising, truthfulness, transparency, keeping promises, responsiveness, safeguarding privacy and embodying integrity.

Susan Cumberland, the founder and owner of School is Easy, was surprised and grateful for the recognition.

“It’s the tutors that own these awards,” she said. “They are on the front line everyday representing School is Easy. They are dedicated. They love the kids. They really care.”

Cumberland started her tutoring agency in 2002 when she saw a need for extra academic support for struggling kids as well as high achieving kids.

“Any student who wants to reach their full potential can through one on one in home tutoring. Regular assistance and feedback from a B.C.-certified teacher can go a long way,” she said.

In 2009, Cumberland began franchising her Lower Mainland business model across Canada. In October, 2017 with 13 franchise locations, Cumberland sold her franchise company to a Canadian Ed Tech company called Launchlife International. Cumberland still manages her original tutoring company in the Lower Mainland as a franchisee. She also has master franchise rights for the state of California.

Cumberland says, “I am really excited to bring the School Is Easy brand to the world stage and spread critical thinking skills and education around the globe.”
