Burnaby, Vancouver drug raids yield 'kilograms' of cocaine, thousands of pills and 'ghost gun'

Sept. 17 operations a "major disruption" to organized crime and Lower Mainland drug trade, says Burnaby RCMP

Coordinated raids on homes in Burnaby and Vancouver yielded “kilograms” of cocaine, tens of thousands of counterfeit prescription pills and an untraceable “ghost gun” earlier this month, according to police.

Officers executed four search warrants simultaneously on Sept. 17 as part of a major, four-month investigation by Burnaby RCMP’s drug section, according to a news release Wednesday.

Investigators seized “kilograms” of bulk and prepackaged cocaine, the release said.

They also seized methamphetamine, MDMA and tens of thousands of counterfeit Xanax, Percocet and Oxycontin pills, according to police.

Police also seized an unregistered, restricted “ghost gun” and ammunition.

“The seizure is significant because of the untraceable nature of the gun components, which do not have serial numbers,” the release said.

Three people were arrested and charges are pending, according to police.

Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said the suspects “are associated to figures involved in the Lower Mainland gang conflict.”

“This enforcement action is a major disruption to this criminal organization and has the potential to disrupt drug operations across the Lower Mainland,” he said in the release.
