Burnaby resident Vivian Liu knows how to handle a violin.
The 14-year-old won a national gold medal for getting the top mark in Canada on the Royal Conservatorys graduate-level exam in violin performance.
Liu will receive her award on Sunday, March 3 at a public medals ceremony in Vancouver.
The ceremony will also celebrate Burnaby residents Amanda Wu, 15, and Suji Yang, 11, who won regional gold medals for scoring the top marks in B.C. on their Grade 8 and Grade 4 cello exams, respectively.
Students in North America who succeed in their Conservatory examinations can get high school credit, and include their achievements on their applications for college and university programs, according to a press release from the music education organization.
Regional gold medals are awarded each academic year to Conservatory examination candidates who achieve the highest mark in their respective province or designated region.
