Burnaby’s three biggest malls are cutting their hours in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Metropolis at Metrotown now allows stores the option of being open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

The mall has also ramped up cleaning procedures, according to a post on its website.

“Over the last few weeks, we included additional measures, particularly regular filling of soap dispensers and antiseptic hand-gel dispensers at designated locations,” the post stated. “We have increased the frequency of our cleaning practices in our buildings’ common areas, and our cleaning products comply with recommendations for COVID-19 sanitization in the workplace.”

Brentwood Town Centre has given stores the option of being open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until March 29, when the decision will be reassessed, according to the mall’s website.

Lougheed Town Centre is doing the same and has placed hand sanitizers throughout the mall, increased cleaning procedures, closed the children’s play area and shut down guest services and events at the mall, the City of Lougheed website stated.

Individual stores have decided to close during the pandemic, the majority until March 27.

Apple, Lush, Lululemon, Nike, Aritzia and Shaw retail and Freedom Mobile locations have decided to shut their doors for the time being, according to messages on the companies’ websites.

Starbucks and Tim Hortons locations have moved to a to-go model of service, still providing food and beverages, but with no seating at their locations.
