Andrew Logan is being praised for saving a two-year-old from potential danger — which could've included death.
Port Moody police (PMPD) explain Logan was a bystander who jumped into action to rescue the child after witnessing a man in crisis trying to carry them through oncoming traffic earlier this month.
No one was injured in the "dynamic incident," as described by PMPD spokesperson Const. Sam Zacharias.
"We want to recognize the selfless actions of Andrew who put the safety of this child above his own, potentially preventing harm to this child," he says in a statement provided to the Tri-City News today (March 22).
"We do not encourage anyone to put themselves in harm’s way, however, we truly appreciate his actions."
Around 7:50 p.m. on March 14, Logan saw a man experiencing, what was determined as, a mental health crisis.
He was seen holding his child in the 2022-block of St Johns Street — part of the Barnet Highway (7A) between Albert and Elgin streets — but then attempted to run into moving traffic.
Zacharias explains Logan intervened and took the child into his custody until police got to the scene.
The father was apprehended under the BC Mental Health Act and taken to hospital.
Police have since conducted the proper avenues to ensure the two-year-old's welfare and safety.
