Cory Bernard of Burnaby will be sailing into the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets national regatta in Kingston, Ont. from Aug. 20 to 27.

Bernard, a chief petty officer with Corps Fraser, will race in the pirate class following a third-place finish at the qualifying regatta held over the May long weekend in Victoria.

Bernard will test himself and one-member crew in dinghies, rigged with spinnaker and trapeze, against a field of 50 other cadets in 12 races on a modified Olympic triangle course.

Twelve hundred teenaged sea cadets are introduced to sailing in 30 sea cadet corps throughout B.C., making it the largest youth sailing training program in the province.

Youth interested in learning to sail or participate in cadet activities are invited to attend Fraser's registration night on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 535 Derwent Way on Annacis Island between 6: 30 and 9 p.m.
