A murder suspected wanted on a Canada-wide warrant has been located in New Westminster.
On Wednesday, the New Westminster Police Department became aware of a man at a Sapperton residence who was believed to be wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for second degree murder. New West police officers located and arrested the 19-year-old suspect, Michael Elendu, without incident and confirmed his identity as the wanted suspect.
“We are pleased that our members were able to locate this individual and take him into custody without incident,” police spokesperson Sgt. Sanjay Kumar said in a news release. “While the original incident didn’t occur in our community, the serious nature of the charges would indicate that this individual needed to be arrested so the judicial process can begin.”
The suspect was apprehended by New Westminster police located the suspect on the same day the Calgary Police Services issued a press release seeking assistance to locate Elendu, who was believed to still be in the Calgary area but could have travelled to Winnipeg or British Columbia.
According to a press release, Calgary Police Services was called to a residence on the morning of Dec. 15 for reports of a man suffering from stab wounds. The deceased man was later identified 20-year-old Kyreese George Wright.
On Dec. 17, 2020, Calgary police issued a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder for Elendu. They received several tips, but had been unable to locate him until he was apprehended in New Westminster.
After being located by local police, Elendu was transported to NWPD cells. Arrangements are being made for him to be returned to Calgary to face his charges.
