A man and a woman have been arrested on Burnaby's border with New Westminster after they allegedly stole a car at gunpoint and then crashed into a police car on Sunday afternoon.
Police were called about the carjacking, which started in the Metrotown area.
"A man was approached in the 7100-block of McKay (Avenue)," Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Will Wark told The Province. "He said he was outside his home when a man pointed a gun, demanded that he empty his pockets, stole his necklace and stole his car."
A few minutes later, a Mountie spotted the car and the incident moved toward the Burnaby-New Westminster border.
Everything would come to a head near the corner of 10th Street and Sixth Avenue.
"What happened is when he said that he had the vehicle, the other officer went in and blocked the intersection up ahead," said Insp. Davis Wendell, regional duty officer for the RCMP's Lower Mainland district. "The stolen vehicle collided with a civilian vehicle and pushed it into the police vehicle."
The officer was taken to hospital after the crash, but her injuries were minor. Both suspects were arrested and one was taken to hospital with minor injuries Wendell said. "Thankfully two in custody and nobody hurt."
The two will likely face several charges, including armed robbery and possession of stolen property Wendell said.
